Goodbye, Elephant. Hello, Blog!

Okay…let’s just address the elephant in the room (we know you see it too).

I wouldn’t trust a mechanist whose car was broken down all the time.  I wouldn’t listen to a dermatologist who went to a tanning bed daily.  And, I certainly wouldn’t hire a landscape artist whose lawn was overgrown with 10-foot weeds.

It’s just the whole ‘practice what you preach’ philosophy.  Don’t be a hypocrite, right?

And what is one of the things we always tell our clients?  Don’t start a Facebook page unless you’re going to maintain it.  Do not start Tweeting unless you have something important to say.  And never put a blog on your site unless it’s going to stay current and relevant!

Oops.

The good news is – we’re fully committed to starting over and doing it right (and it isn’t even New Years Eve) – starting NOW!

We recently welcomed Kris Berry, our new Communications Intern, to the Sideshow team.  Kris is a Senior at Texas A&M, and brings his experience from a video production company in Dallas and the PR department for Houston’s Major League Soccer team, the Dynamo.  He’s going to stay on top of this here blog and make sure we get ‘er done (amongst other things, of course).  He’s been here 3 weeks already and hasn’t run screaming yet.  That’s a good sign.

Now…go forth, young Blog, and prosper.

Remember how cool Gumby was?

Gumby is an example of stop motion animation, and is my absolute favorite video style out there. I just adore seeing clay, candy, socks, peanuts, or whatever come to life.

Let me give you a rough idea of how much work it takes to produce one of these videos. To produce a 30-second video, I would use about 10 photos per second, meaning I’d have to take a minimum of 300 shots.  300 photos is a lot, sure, but remember that you have to move the object ever so slightly for each shot. So…take photo. Move Object. Take photo. Move object. Take photo. Move Object. You get the idea. It’s extremely time consuming, but everyone reaps the benefits in the end!

To share today, I chose one of many amazing videos from a website I visit regularly called www.eatpes.com. Enjoy.

Two muffins are sitting in an oven….

Two muffins are sitting in an oven. One muffin says “Phew, it’s hot in here.” the other says “Holy moly, it’s a talking muffin!”

For my first blog post, I thought I would tell you a little bit about myself. I was born and raised in Sugarland, Texas and received my bachelors in communication design and illustration painting from Texas State. Upon graduation I spread my wings, and accepted a position as a graphic designer at a “green” marketing firm in Fort Collins, Colorado. Our clientele was an eclectic mix of alternative energy, organic, sustainable living, and non-profit companies. I moved back to Texas in 2008 and am thrilled to be a part of the fun, exciting, creative, smart, and innovative marketing agency: Sideshow Creative in Bryan.  I’m an Ambassador with the BCS Chamber of Commerce and a member of BNI Aggieland.

A little about “Serious Glenda” – I’m passionate about working hard at everything I do and learning from other people’s mistakes. There are no free lunches, so I need to work for what I want. God and my family are the most important factors of my life, and they are the ones who keep me motivated.

A little about “Silly Glenda” – I love stop motion videos, blueberries, the outdoors, Crossfit, massages, painting, ice cream with a side of ice cream, motorcycles, Kris, Kris on a motorcycle, corny jokes, and several cups of joe in the morning.
